I Used to Have the Perfect Golf Swing but…

First I want to tell you that most of these events occurred previously and the tails about my current golfing scores looking for the perfect golf swing have been occurring over the summer.

It is October and November as I post these but the current events happened June, July, August and September of 2010. If you are just now starting to read my blog I would advise that you go to the beginning and read back up to current so that you understand what I am talking about.

Back 15 years ago I played like a pro. But it was not because I was a superior athlete. I am a very good athlete but not superior. I was playing between 4 and 6 times a week. Two times on two different leagues on five different 9 holes. The other 2 to 4 times were on 18 hole courses. Many of those courses were country clubs with a fine course.

You see, I had a good job and had many vendors calling on me to help them get work with the company I was with. They would set up tee times for us and I would be able to go, play 18 holes with lunch at the turn to 10. With me averaging being on the course 5 times a week, it doesn’t take long to become pretty good.

Some of the members that I played with would have their club pro look at my swing and help make adjustments. So over a few years, I became very good. I could hang with most of the club pros and was asked to play a lot so that the member I was with could make some money off of others that we played against.

I am not a big person, I am 5’7″ and weighed, at that time, 155 pounds. I could still pound the ball and had many 300 yard drives. I was clocked at 116 mph with a swing meter. I don’t know how accurate that figure is but I would say I was pretty close to that speed.

In spite of all of that, my wife challenged me with “You are spending to much money on golf”. I protested but then I went and sat down to figure out how much I was spending. To my surprise, I was spending over $400 per month on greens fees, dinners and drinks. OMG! That did not even count how much was being spent on me by the vendors that were club members of the private course.

Wow, well I was making pretty good money then but things were about to change.

See you next post.
